I made this on Wednesday as I remembered the 20-year ‘anniversary’ of my mom’s tragic scuba diving accident. Photos of my growing up years and of my mom throughout her life.

Happy Birthday, Gammy!

I want to dedicate this entry to my amazing grandmother, affectionately known as “Gammy”.
Today is my grandmother’s 84th birthday and she remains such an amazing encouragement to me and the rest of the family. Her steadfast faith throughout my life have impacted me greatly, as she prays for me and mine daily. What a gift!
When we were out last night, we took a few pictures of the kids just for her – because that’s all she ever wants is pictures!
Here’s one of her from last summer, and then a couple of the kids during the evening windstorm that dropped temps 25 degrees in a matter of minutes.

I like this photo so much that I forgot it wasn't even of her face! But this is how you find these two - side by side. They are an amazing example of dedicated, selfless love.

We love you, Gammy, and hope you have a wonderful birthday!

Kara & Wes amongst the beautiful tulips of LaConnor
My brother, Wes, and his lovely bride of 2 years, Kara, came up from So. California for a perfectly-timed visit Thursday, 4/23 – Sunday, 4/26. Kara’s college friend got married on Saturday and that was a great excuse for an extended weekend visit with us.
With Jordan’s surgery scheduled for Friday, it was the first time in years that we’ve had family here to care for the girls when Jordan’s been in surgery. And they came ready to spoil those nieces. Friday brought manicures and pedicures followed by a trip up north to The Tulip Festival before scooping up some fresh ice cream and heading home.

Such relaxation! The entire chair was fit with massagers.

Awwww. Bekah getting her nails done.

(Blurry, but you get the idea.) Bekah's purple nails with flowers on the thumbs. Her toes match.

They loved this old bus. Ashley and her Uncle.
What an amazing day. And then they swung by the grocery store and picked up the fixings for tacos. Willie and I came home from Jordan’s surgery to a Mexican Fiesta. Thanks guys! It was so wonderful to have you here.

Her theology is a little confused at points (she figures God must be angry with the Jewish people for crucifying Him), but it’s still very cute…

Grand parents and kids (Ashley 13, Jordan 11, Bekah 7)
Although we don’t get to see G & G as often as we’d like, it sure is fun when we do! We keep crazy busy, I don’t know how they do it!
A rundown of our 3 days:
Thursday: Met us at gymnastics and watched a full hour and half of Bekah’s flipping and flopping; Ran to Target to get Jordan a b’day gift; Met Jordan at home and did the ‘present thing’; Attempted to go bowling – oops, Mommy messed that one up; Went to Spaghetti Factory instead.
Friday: Helped with some home schooling; Off to pick up Jordan at school; Jump Planet for another hour and a half; Bowling extravaganza; Dinner at Fat Burger; Girls shopping at Nordstrom Rack; Home for RockBand jam session.
Saturday: Movie: Paul Blart: Mall Cop; Lots of treats so we wandered around the mall until heading to Ruby’s Diner for lunch; Hangout time at home; Girls walk to Starbucks in a chilly 40 degrees; Little Caesar’s pizza at home; Farewells…
Always lots of fun and lots of memories packed into a short time.

Dolly Day!

Bekah began asking for me to get my dolls down weeks ago. I finally told her on Monday that I’d get them down on Friday. Immediately, she went to the dolphin calendar hanging on her wall and circled Friday’s date. Ever since then, she’s been crossing days off in anticipation of Dolly Day.
The day finally arrived and I scaled the garage wall to grab down the highest box with dolls much older than I contained therein.
We brought the box in and lifted the lid as the smells of aged memories wafted out. Then the tender examining began. She loves this box. I love that she loves it. There are dolls from the 1800s in there and doesn’t get to play with them often. The dolls belonged to my grandmother and her mother before her.
Bekah is looking forward to her weekend with the dolls – they’ll go back up on Sunday.

Family Rock Session on New Year’s Day 2009. That’s Bekah on the bass with the grey hood over her head on the right side of the screen, and although it’s hard to hear over all the applause, at the end Jordan yells, “I did it!”
Trunk or Treat

Each year on Halloween our church holds what they call Trunk or Treat. At this event, nearly 25 vehicles are used as candy distributors where owners ’pop their trunks’, decorate them in any fashion (hoping to perhaps win a prize), and allow all the kids to go around and collect their goodies. Inflatables, face painting, carnival-type games, food, and hay rides are also available.
This year, when our good friends Bill and Leah announced they were moving back to Ohio, I came up with the idea of going as them on Halloween. Bill and Willie are both bearded red-heads and Leah and I are both tallish brunettes. We even have a group picture at a marriage retreat where Bill and I are out of the picture because we are photographing and with Leah and Willie standing next to one another I’m not even missed!
Here’s another one I love of Willie, Bill and Leah:
So, Willie and I just couldn’t resist representing these friends at the place we’d met a couple years ago. Since Bill had been on staff at church, and well-loved, it was perfect. Being huge Ohio State Buckeye fans, we borrowed ‘some’ of their gear and posed. Except that I got sick and didn’t get to participate. But Willie went with it:

My brother, Wes, makes me smile. He’s the baby of the family and rarely did wrong. His biggest problem was deciding where his allegiance would fall when his big sister and brother would get in fights!
He and Kara are so much fun and I wish we got to see this California couple more often. I love you, Wes!
