So, it’s pretty late in the summer to admit this but I am finally getting around to going through school papers, artwork, etc. that have been sitting around from at least June.
I got all the way through Jordan’s on Sunday and saved a collection of things that had been assembled by someone within his class.
Today, I’m going through the huge file of art projects and 1st writing assignments that I’ve saved throughout the year. For posterity, here they are…

Rain
Rain helps plants grow
We drink the rain that goes into lakes
We need the rain to stay healthy.
I like to stomp in summer rain puddles.

A Favorite Place
The sun is very, very bright and is kind of like light bulbs. The wind makes you able to fly a kite. Kites are colorful and you can take them to the beach or even play with them in your backyard. Woohoo!!!!!!
Make a Wish
I wish that Troy was 6 and I could be his friend.

Working with shapes and symmetry

Making prints as well as evergreen and deciduous trees

Egypt, cave paintings, and the ancient middle east

Imitate an artist: Van Gogh's Water Lilies

More famous artists: Piet Mondrian, VanGogh; and a pencil drawing done to music "Fabulous"

Free drawing - I think it's about the Jews being at God's heart and Jesus' back.
I think I’m closing the book on 1st grade!

After morning,
I go lie on things.
I lie on my side
And look outside the window
I lie on my left side
And look at my books.
I always lie on things
After morning.
A poem by Bekah based on “Lying on Things” by Dennis Lee.
Moon Craters

Bekah loves her science through K12. The last unit of the year has been about the moon and an experiment was just the perfect way to enjoy it. She loves donning her goggles and getting down and dirty…
A thick layer of sand, followed by a layer of flour, topped off with cocoa powder created a simulated moon surface for us to conduct our Moon Crater experiment.
Once the ‘moon’ was complete, the next step was to simulate rocks battering the surface…
Bekah learned that although God protects our Earth with an atmosphere that burns up almost all rocks headed for us, the uninhabited moon has no such protective layer and therefore ends up marred as rocks of varying sizes continually batter it.
As evidenced by the cocoa powder all over the place, dropping the marbles and making the ‘moon dust’ go poof was a lot of fun. It would have been nice if we’d been able to get the marbles out each time by simply touching them with tape like the directions said, but we had to work at extracting them a little more than that! Another fun and learning science experiment!
Baseball, Bowling and Poetry

Ashley had a ‘tween bowling event today with Homeschooling His Way. There wasn’t a great turn out, but those who came had a good time.
Jordan had his second baseball game of the season against his old teammates, the Pirates. He got a couple nice hits off the tee and ran the bases with increasing speed. They all had a great time, though we’re ready for warmer weather at the games! His next game is Saturday afternoon.
Bekah was introduced to Haiku today and wrote a couple with some help. It’s great work with a focus on syllables. Remember that 5,7,5 syllable pattern? Here are some samples of her work today:
