A snowy Saturday

We had already determined that Saturday (2/26) was going to be our trip to Krispy Kreme to redeem our Valentine ‘free doughnut’ coupons, and then it snowed – again. We bundled up, drove to North Seattle, fed our fat cells, and then headed out for a walk.
Fun family morning!
Sunday’s bizarre weather

We awoke to this:

Over-looking our neighborhood, taken from our bedroom window

Taken out another bedroom window
And six hours later…

Same view just hours later
What wacky weather – and the 30 mile an hour winds aren’t even visible in this photo! Hope your Sunday was blessed!

Christ Jesus is born! Christmas Day…
04 Jan 2009 3 Comments
This year’s Christmas celebration followed our typical pattern. Stockings were hung, Mom and Dad dropped into bed far too late, and the kids woke early and ready to go. After stockings, we got some orange danishes ready to go and moved to the living room where Baby Jesus lay in the ‘manger’ under the tree. We read the Nativity Story, opened gifts in a somewhat organized manner, then started getting ready to hit the road. Typically we have more time after gift opening, but this year the snow was piling up fast and we knew we needed to get out if we were going to! Willie had purchased a ham in case we ended up having to stay home, but I really wanted to celebrate with the Bodgers. By 10:30, we were on the snowy roads and headed to grandmother’s house.

Our stockings
Once the kids woke up (AND there was daylight), they race downstairs and get their stockings to bring up to our bed.

Quaking with excitement. Of course, the dog has to be in the center of the action.

Mommy got a mug from Ashley - a snowman!

Willie enjoyed our breakfast treats - he only got clothes...

We were leaving?!
Then it was shower time and a race to hit the road…

Our travels took us through some glorious areas of God’s creation. They are so amazing I’ll dedicate the next post to them exclusively, but here are a couple more…

Arriving in Bellingham

Jordan loves on all his new Webkinz - he got four new ones that morning

We didn't expect snow at Grandma's sea level home - but there was plenty

The boys: Don, Jason & Josh

The kids watch Kung Fu Panda (Jordan, Bekah, Kendra, Ashley)

The kids congregate around Daddy and Dolly the dog

Bekah and Dolly. A little blurry but too cute to pass up!

My guys play with the remote control cars - to them it might matter what kind of cars they are. Me? Don't remember.
Presents at Grandma’s…

Bekah got Polly Pockets!

Jordan gets his seemingly annual Hot Wheels tracks

Ashley got her favorite, new clothes!

Josh helps Jordan put the tracks together - sans directions. Who needs 'em?

The gang: Ashley, Tera, Kendra, Christy, Jin (Tera's friend), and Willie

Don with his fake hair - hair attached to a hat

Bekah and Grandma Yogi - Grandma finally sits.
What a fun day, and we even made it all the way home and into our driveway despite an entire day of snowfall in Lynnwood!
Christmas Eve with the Mansfields

- Cheers!
The Mansfields came to our house this year for our annual Christmas Eve celebration. Willie made dinner of Enchiladas, beans, salad, chips, salsa, and smoothies. It was quite a hit with the kids – and the adults, too.
Once dinner was over, we were hoping the kids would put on a 1st Christmas show for us, but we never could talk them into it. Instead, the adults chatted and the kids went and played as they sort of contemplated the show. They got as far as finding a baby Jesus and manger, but got slightly side-tracked when they turned Katie into a reindeer… Maybe next year.

Once we’d sung for Jesus and had our dessert, we all settled in to watch Miracle on 34th Street as snow continued to fall. John had to leave early to run media at the Christmas Eve service. When it was time for Sherice and the kids to leave… Sherice, who isn’t a fan of our driveway on a clear day, really experienced the best of it!

- Willie went out to check on Sherice and found her spinning her wheels. He grabbed a shovel and started digging.

- It took about 15 minutes, making church impossible, but eventually they made it out!
Merry Christmas!
Weather update

Wow! We’ve gotten hammered, and winter has just begun. We’ve had snow on the ground for 10 days now, and more is forcast for Christmas Eve. It definitely looks like a mountain retreat around here, with areas that were cleared a few days ago now sporting 10 inches of snow on them!

Our driveway Sunday evening

Our neighborhood at noon today. Willie had just driven the car to the main street for me - I had gotten stuck in the driveway.

The view of our neighbor's house as we backed out of the driveway. This is a TON of snow for our area.

As we were heading out for our Santa pictures this afternoon, I couldn’t quite put a finger on what I was reminded of – until it struck me: The scene around me reminded me of a trip to the mountains. Roads covered with ice. Filthy cars all around. Icicles hanging from all parts of vehicles. It was amazing.

Icicles hanging from our rooftop - in 5 years, I've never seen this

It really does say 13 degrees

Ashley wants a red sweater. "Why, you're not even wearing red!" Silly Santa, that's why she wants a red sweater!

This morning, we woke to snow and crystal clear skies.

We so rarely get icicles around here, it's truly gorgeous.

Ashley & Bekah experiment with Ice Bergs
The first part of a large and lengthy storm rolled in just as Bekah’s party finished on Saturday the 13th. It was just enough to make the roads risky for church Sunday morning, but we made it and Jordan got to sing with Dynamic Praise Kids Choir.
Everything stayed cold for days and created layers of ice on the roads which resulted in two hour late start days on Monday and Tuesday for Jordan. Just as the roads started to clear, more snow hit Tuesday night with many inches predicted for Wednesday. School was cancelled Wednesday, but the snow didn’t start falling until 3:30 that afternoon.
Over the next 24 hours, the Northwest was hit with anywhere from 2-25″ of snow. In Lynnwood home got about 4 inches. School was then canceled for Thursday and Friday, resulting in an early start to Christmas Break.
Thursday was the first day that snow fell during the day, and the kids were out in droves – despite temperatures in the mid-upper twenties and a wind chill on top of that. Bekah spent time sledding with neighbors, Max & Sydney, while Ashley headed off with Summer who had walked to our house.
