Jordan’s 1st big bike ride

In an amazing turn of events that were a total answer to prayer, 5 days before we left for Family Camp I ‘stumbled’ upon information that Outdoors for All rents equipment. I had checked with therapists and case workers and no one knew of anyone who rented stuff. The very next morning I took Jordan to Seattle and tried out a bike. And then, only by the provision of friends was the bike actually rented for the week. It was such a blessing.

And at the end of the week, when asked if he’d liked Family Camp, Jordan responded, “Yes! ‘Cause I had my bike!” Like, duh!

Mariners vs. Yankees 8-15-09

Well, they couldn’t pull out a win for us but it sure was an experience to attend a Yankees game at Safeco Field! Once again, thanks to Starlight Children’s Foundation, we got to take the family to the ballpark for a super fun game. And this time, the Johnson family got to join us.

This was the first game at Safeco in 10 years which featured former teammates Ken Griffey, Jr. and Alex Rodriguez. The phenoms played together for the M’s for the better part of 5 seasons (1995-1999).

Fingerprints for our FBI background checks

Fingerprints for our FBI background checks

One step closer to reaching our goal! On Saturday we took the whole family down to the Lynnwood Police Department, plunked down Willie and my ID and $10 each and got fingerprinted. The kids certainly didn’t need to come but we’re trying to include them in as much as we can since this is a family affair! Ashley and Jordan went with me to the Antioch Adoption office last Wednesday to meet our case worker, Chelsea, just so they’d get a little better connected with where all this business is taking place. I think it was neat for Chelsea to meet the kids, too, even though Bekah ended up at the park with a friend.

Bailey’s back!

Many years ago in a house not too far from here… We were the owners of a fantastic Golden Retriever named Bailey. He was the first Bodger baby to join Willie and Stephanie’s home. Within a year, Ashley came along and there was fur pulling and spitting up on him and all kinds of fun. A couple years later, Jordan joined the family. The Bodger family in 1998: Willie & Stephanie, a daughter, a son, and a dog. It added up perfectly up until Jordan reached 6 months and his development went from on-target to far off it. His declining health and increased care needs resulted in lots of work for Stephanie and the wonderful dog ended up getting the boot. Thankfully, he didn’t get booted far.

Family members were able to take the amazing Bailey and have been his caring owners for the last 11 years. Sunshine, Shannon & Oskar have dog sat for our new dog, Benny, multiple times over the past 4 years but we have never gotten Bailey back onto our turf… at least not until Aug. 8th, 2009. Bekah was at a sleep over while Ashley and Jordan got a reunion with their 15 year-old Golden Retriever when he came for an overnight dog sitting.

Despite being deaf and having vestibular issues, he is still the sweetest dog I’ve come across.

Unable to climb the stairs and too big to be carried, Jordan and Ashley brought their pillows downstairs and had a sleepover in the living room with Bailey. I saw tears in Ashley’s eyes as she got ready for bed…

Wrapping up Bekah’s school year

So, it’s pretty late in the summer to admit this but I am finally getting around to going through school papers, artwork, etc. that have been sitting around from at least June.

I got all the way through Jordan’s on Sunday and saved a collection of things that had been assembled by someone within his class.

Today, I’m going through the huge file of art projects and 1st writing assignments that I’ve saved throughout the year. For posterity, here they are…

A Favorite Place

The sun is very, very bright and is kind of like light bulbs. The wind makes you able to fly a kite. Kites are colorful and you can take them to the beach or even play with them in your backyard. Woohoo!!!!!!

Make a Wish

Accepted by Antioch Adoptions!

A month has passed since we received this letter but it is still so dear to my heart. Through the abilities of technology, here it is to share.

We are now praying about childcare for the extended training weekend as well as funds for this and the FBI finger printing. Continuing to pray for the child(ren) the Lord has for us; for physical and spiritual protection, health, readying to join our family, and a covering by the blood of Jesus. We continue to also pray for those who will be involved in the placement of this child as well as the birth parents.

Thank you for your continued prayers for us in this process.

Seafair 2009 – part 2

I don’t have pictures of our first parade of the year (Greenwood Neighborhood) because I went to take my first picture and realized at that point that I’d had forgotten my photo card at home. Bummer! And I had the cutest picture of Jordan and Bekah looking over the back of the camp chair at me just prior to the start of the parade. Oh well, one for the memory bank!

Our 3rd Seafair event found us traveling to the shores of Lake Washington on a cooking hot day to watch the Blue Angels do their air show overhead. I have taken the kids to this for most of the years we’ve been able to attend – a.k.a. ‘not sick from cancer or related effects’. After a while it seems that the pictures seem to look the same from year to year, but the sound and maneuvers are still thrilling. And when they make new passes overhead I know they have changed their show from the past years.

Enjoy some of our fun with us – which caused all of us veteran moms to don swimsuits and cool off in the comfortable water. And, not only was there excitement in the air but also on the water (Seattle Fire) and in the water (life guard rescued at 4 y.o. who went out too far and was bobbing – scary!!) Our 25 had a great time!
