Marriage Retreat at Whistler’s Four Seasons Resort

Over Willie’s birthday weekend we had the opportunity to make our 3rd trip to Whistler with our church. Here are a few pictures…

With many Olympic sights around Whistler removed, we made our way off the beaten path to the Whistler Sliding Centre.

An afternoon interview

Willie and I had our first interview with Antioch today. It is this interview and their conversations with our pastors that determine whether or not we are accepted into their ministry. Of course, this whole thing is up to God, so who knows what the journey will look like, but we’ve started something.
As part of the documentation that I’d like to present this potential child someday, I took a picture of Willie and I on this special day.

Suite night at Safeco!

May 22, 2009 –

Our 2nd game of the season, this one was a gift from the Fitch family as a thank you for Willie’s help coaching Faith’s (and Jordan’s) baseball team over the years – well, and because we’re friends, too! As a Mariners employee, Ede gets a suite once a year and their family chooses to thank supporters of their family by inviting some of those people – Mariner fans – to enjoy the suite with them. This is our second year attending and it’s been a blast both times. This year, Jordan’s principal and his wife also attended so it was fun to chat with them.

We watched this stance for so many years with Randy was with the Mariners it was really amazing to have seats right above the bullpen where he warmed up prior to the start of the game.

The game was a very exciting one which ended up going into extra innings. Not only did Randy Johnson pitch for the visiting Giants, but it was Felix Hernandez bobble head night and the Mariners pulled out a victory in 12 innings!

Willie and I had to leave the game early to catch the bus. The bottom of the 9th arrived, bases loaded, and the pinch hit Griffey – the place went wild. It was a bummer that he struck out but the electricity in the place to have Griffey in Johnson back together in the same game was worth going into extra innings. Following the game on Willie’s internet-enabled phone, we learned while we were passing Northgate on the bus that we won it in 12!

Fun night!

At the game - we were in shorts and no coats all evening, leaving in 80 degrees at 10pm! And the M's won! and Griffey homered!

Mariner’s Fanfest

Each year, the Mariners hold an event at Safeco Field called Fanfest. Willie and I have been interested in going for a couple years but each time the cost has been prohibitive. This year, we went! And on January 23 not only did we “go”, we went for free and to the ‘coveted’ Season Ticket holder event from 5-7 pm. The daytime event, open to the public, is attended by thousands and each activity within the park is accompanied by a considerable wait time. Thanks to our church friend, Kent Oliver, we had a blast with friends at this fan-oriented fest.

We had free hot dogs, cookies, pop, water, and Cracker Jacks prior to seeing Mike Blowers interview the new manager. Then we headed to the activities around the park: throwing in the bull-pen, hitting off the tee in the outfield, catching a pop-fly in the outfield, touring the visitor’s clubhouse and hitting in their batting cage, as well as a tour of the M’s clubhouse (posh!). Between the fun activities and the even more fun friends we attended with, it was a ‘date night’ to remember for Willie and I!

My Mother\'s Day giftBekah and Molly

The activities of our very hot weekend… Friday – Edmonds Beach with Molly. Saturday we spent the day outside with baseball game, picture day, and pizza, followed (and preceded) by yardwork, trellis building, car washing, and such. Ashley enjoyed a hot trip to the zoo for a youth group scavenger hunt of the leaders. We tried to hit the Lynnwood pool after picking up Ashley, but it was very hot (roof not off yet) and a total zoo in and of itself. Instead, we went next door to the fire station and got a tour of the station from our firefighter friend, Keith Sessions. Jordan even put the coat on – it was heavy! Then, Willie & I enjoyed an evening of fun as we celebrated Leah’s birthday at the Mansfield’s. Did we have sunburns? Yeah, we’re fair and inexperienced at dealing with the first intense rays of the year…

Weekend Away

Willie & Steph in the Empress Hotel courtyardWillie\'s 40!Willie and I had a wonderful weekend away this past weekend in Victoria at Alderwood’s Couple’s Retreat. Highlights included Willie’s 40th birthday, our wonderful speaker, hanging out and playing with friends, and being treated to breakfast in bed compliments of very sweet friends!

Many thanks to my long-time friend, Laura, for watching the kids all weekend!! They had a wonderful time. However, Jordan is still trying to adjust now that we’re back. It’s like he has a delayed reaction. He does ok (not great, but fine) while we’re away, but once we get back he has a really hard time being away. He was upset enough on Monday that the teachers thought we were still gone and ended up sitting with him to settle him down. And this morning, 5 minutes after putting him on the bus the driver called and said he was crying and wanted to come home because he missed me. I tried talking him down, she said he’d be fine, but then I heard him bawling in the background. He ended up coming home for the day! He gets Friday off and Monday we all head to Portland on the train for the day, so he just has to make it through tomorrow… I hope and pray there is nothing else going on.
